It is about the U.S. after some sort of great uprising or disaster or something. There are (is it thirteen??) divisions now, and the Capital. However, there is a lot of poverty, and it is often difficult for the families to get food. So, they have these contests, the Hunger Games, every year. It is for children between certain ages, and every year, every eligible kid has their name entered a certain amount of times (The older the kid is, the more times it will be entered. Also, you can put your name in extra times and you will get extra food for your family that year). Then, they draw two people from each division, one boy and one girl, and they have to compete in the Hunger Games, which is a brutal game hosted by the capital to remind all the divisions that they are ultimately in the disposal of the Capital. The contestants have to fight in extreme circumstances, trying to survive while elimating the other contestants, including the ones from their own area.

That is the basic idea, but I will not tell you anything about the characters, except that Katniss is the main character and that San is in love with Peeta, the main boy character.

San probably could describe it better though... I have not read this book in forever.

My friend was reading it and showed me like one page and I cried not even knowing the characters! I will need to read it after she does.
