The Toy War

In the morning, Jonas left for school. He dragged out his boring life in an old boring house in an old boring town, where the school year slept and the summer ran by, the kind of town where nothing seemed to happen. Ever. Like most kids his age and disposition, he had a pesky sister, Hanna, who would sneak into his room when no one was looking and play with his toys. He also suffered humiliation from all of the kids at his new school, since he had tons of crazy neighbors. From that day forward, he would be teased for living on crazy street. Yes, this is the life of your typical Jonas. But this story is not about him.

No.

This story isn't about him, his sister, his parents, the village, his house, it's not even about his dog.

It's about his toys.

One slow typical day, Jonas left for school. Right after he left, the war was started. There is some debate among the toy box on how the war started in the first place, but the most popular story is that some dolls from the enemy territory entered a restricted area. When the space fighters swooped in to move the dolls out, they attacked. They swung their giant arms and took down a fighter. Then the rest entered an attack position and were all defeated as easily as the first one. Then tanks rolled in. They shot shells as far and as hard as they could. Most of the shots missed, but one hit right on target. Too on target. It landed a nice, perfectly round dent in the leg of one of the dolls. That just made them angry. They made a signal, and in came the Trollz army. This is how the war started, but this is what happened when the wheels were set in motion.

After the Trollz destroyed the tanks, the air raid was sent in. Flying machines of all shapes and sizes were sent in. They dropped water balloons, toy soldiers, giant teddy bears, and anything else that they could salvage from the toy box. The dolls fell back. This bought some time for both sides. The Lego army started to gather all the bricks that they could find, and then their leaders started to argue over the best designs for airships and tanks. The action figures stood on the table and worked out strategy from the highest point that they could get to. They found out a way to stop the doll army to buy a little more time for the airships. They would sneak over to the bookcase and knock down some of the books, creating a wall. When the airships are finished, then they can fly over the wall and launch an attack on the doll army. It was a brilliant plan, and there were no faults when they worked it out in theory. They waited a little longer, and when they saw the doll army preparing for another assault into the room, they acted. The books fell and blocked the way. But the dolls were prepared. They ordered some of the smaller dolls to get into their cars and pull the books out of the way. They were a bit heavy, so they started to do it one book at a time. It didn't give the airships much time, so they started to build in a rush. When the dolls saw what they were building over the wall, they started to pull the books even faster. Before anyone else knew what was happening, everything was a disaster. The battlefield became a rush of toys trying to defend and attack. The dolls were starting to fall back, and Jonas' toys started to gain some ground. The toys pushed the dolls back into Hanna's room, forcing the dolls to put on the defensive. Hanna had more toys then Jonas did, since she was spoiled rotten, or so Jonas said. The action figures and model tanks had more than a match for themselves. They knew that they could not hold the onslaught of toys much longer, and the disorganized bunch of toys started to fall back. A long battle was fought in the hallway, involving each and every toy that both siblings owned, and eventually, after growing tired of running at each other with whatever they had, started to walk back to the space in the hallway outside their rooms and formed camps. Back in the rooms, production on new war machines was started, and improvements of new ones were finished. In the doll camp, a marble cannon was made, and several smaller dolls were taught Kung-Fu. Blocks were put up to protect each side from enemy attacks, and to make sure that they were ready for an enemy attack, Jonas' army sent out a small group of enemy soldiers to keep watch. Both groups just sat there for hours, planning scheming, and building. Finally, the airships were finished, and the action figures plotted the perfect attack route. The airships took flight, and they struck.

The water balloons hit right on target. They made the toys wet and destroyed the wall, letting a small army of toy soldiers to attack Hanna's camp. The doll army, caught totally off guard, started to put their teachings to work. It obviously was a pitiful attempt, because as soon as the soldiers fell into trouble, the airships swooped in and launched a second attack. The dolls were wiped out, and the soldiers captured the camp. The soldiers thought that they had now taken a strategic position and were now able to take the room, but the remaining dolls jumped from the walls and struck without warning. The airships had left to bring supplies, rendering the soldiers completely helpless. The soldiers radioed for help through the Walkie Talkie, but all they got was static. The dolls had taken back their camp.

Back at the toy soldier camp, a game of cards was in progress. They had to play cards in teams, because it took a lot of man power to lift and drag the cards around. Shuffling was even worse. Seemingly as if out of nowhere, a voice was heard over the Walkie Talkie. One of the soldiers who was watching went over to answer the call. It was a call for help! The soldiers suited off and marched off across the hallway. The dolls had already taken their camp back, so when no one was looking, they sneaked into the soldier's base and took it over. When Jonas' toys got there, they were in for a surprise.

Unaware of the capture of the camp, the toys in Jonas' room were busily working on their war machines. When they saw the dolls coming, it wasn't too late (luckily). They activated their war machines and pushed the dolls straight out of the room. They ran so fast that they forgot about both camps and bolted straight into Hanna's room. They tried to tell the other dolls not to go in because of the war machines, but the other dolls didn't care. They said to the other dolls that they weren't going to be scared off by some old and rusty model war machines. So they marched straight in and started to attack. They flanked left and flanked right, but they were no match for the war machines. The action figures thought that they had this one in the bag. There was only one fatal flaw: the machines could not aim to the sky. The dolls brought in a plane and quickly disposed of the war machines. The action figures knew that this would happen sooner or later, so they had created a contraption for just this situation. All that needed to happen was one of the figures would pull the lever, letting loose a trapdoor beneath a bowling ball in Jonas' closet that would devastate the attacking army. This is exactly what happened, and the action figures used the time to create even better war machines that were lighter, could be lifted with the airships, and could aim upwards to attack the skies. The toy soldiers (at least the ones left anyway) had learned never to let their guard down, and promised constant attention in order to make sure that they would never again be left vulnerable to another attack.

Now, most of the toys were sick and tired of the fighting. Both dolls and action figures were getting complaints from their armies that this has gone on for way too long. The Etch-A-Sketch wobbled out in front of the armies, and a peace treaty was written on it. It was then carried over to the dolls while waving a white flag. The dolls took a look at the peace treaty, and then twisted their signatures on the Sketcher, therefore making it official. The leaders shook hands, and the two embraced. If only Jonas could do that with his sister! Hugs were shared all around, and everyone was happy. The two sides, now one, started to slowly filter into their designated rooms, when a lone Lego Minifigure shouted out "HUMAN!" Order broke into chaos at the sound of the door lock clicking. Everyone was in a rush to get back to their shelves, boxes, and storage containers, but it was too late, so they all just flopped down where they were. Jonas looked in the hallway when he walked in. It was a complete mess. He shook his head and said:

"I've got to keep Hanna from playing with my toys."
