Personal history: Billy Black is a direct descendant of Ephraim Black, who was the last chief of the Quileute Indians. (NM7) He is one of Charlie Swans’ best friends. The two go fishing together rather frequently. When Billy’s illness left him crippled and in a wheelchair and unable to drive, Charlie bought Billy’s old Ford truck and gave it to Bella to drive. (TW1)

Billy seems rather superstitious and knows more about the Cullens than he tells his son, Jacob. He warns Bella several times not to be with the Cullens (TW17) and even sends Jacob to the prom to tell Bella to break up with her boyfriend (TW Epilogue). Billy has tried to impress on his son the legends of the “cold ones” but it still comes across as fables.

After the Cullens leave the Forks area, Billy helps his son adjust to life as a werewolf. He tries to keep Bella away from Jacob at first(NM11), but once Bella learns the truth about Jacob and the other members of the tribe, Billy is very supportive and open with Bella.

Personal history:
Jacob met Bella at First Beach about two months after she arrived in town. He told Bella the story of his ancestors making a treaty with the “cold ones”. It was Jacob’s great-grandfather who helped make the treaty. (TW6)

Although Jacob didn’t believe the superstitions of his father or ancestors, he delivered a message to Bella that the Quileutes “will be watching” and a suggestion that she should break up with her boyfriend. Bella refuses. (TW Ep)

After Edward leaves Bella later that September, she shows up at Jacob’s house wanting help fixing up two broken down motorcycles. (NM5) Their friendship grows and Jacob hopes that someday they can be more than friends.

Jacob, as well as most of the boys on the Rez, experiences amazing growth spurts. (NM5) Even though the boys are in their mid-teen years, they appear to be in their twenties. One by one, the boys join in with Sam and his odd little cult. (NM6)

After going out with Bella to a movie, Jacob goes home feeling very ill. (NM9) At home, Jacob mysteriously changes into a creature he doesn’t understand. He is very tall with paws instead of hands and when he speaks, he growls. It is later explained to him that he is a werewolf and that having the vampires near by is what triggers the change at the onset of puberty. (SWM) Because his anger is too difficult to control right now, Jacob is told to stay away from Bella. (NM10)

Jacob and the other wolves track down Laurent in the woods and find him with Bella.(NM10) They race after him, tear him apart, and kill him. (NM13) Later, Jacob manages to leave a suggestion with Bella that leads her to realize he is a werewolf.

Once Bella knows, Jacob includes Bella in most of the LaPush activities and even aggress to take her cliff diving. While tracking Victoria, Jacob sees Bella jump off the cliff on her own. He dives into the water and saves her. (NM15)

Soon after Alice returns to Forks, Harry Clearwater dies of a heart attack. Jacob is at the Swan home when the phone rings. Jacob answers it and tells a man who he assumes is Carlisle that Charlie is at a funeral. In reality, the person was Edward and he assumed that Charlie was at Bella’s funeral. Jacob stays behind while Alice and Bella race off to Italy to save Edward. (NM18)

When Edward and Bella return, Jacob makes sure Bella is grounded by showing Charlie the motocycles. He then reminds Edward that the treaty they have with the vampires states that the vampires are not to bite a human. Bite, not kill. (NM Ep)

Personal history: Embry, along with Quil, is Jacob Black’s best friend on the Rez. It’s rumored that he was named after a soap opera star, but don’t make fun of his name around Jacob. (NM5) He likes to work on dirt bikes and is highly mechanical. (NM5) Along with Jacob, he speculated about the “cult” that was growing in the LaPush area and Sam’s impact on the tribal council. (NM5)

Sometime later, Embry went though the change and became a werewolf like the other boys in LaPush. His change happened before Jacob’s, and since he couldn’t tell Jacob what was happening to him, he started avoiding Jacob. (NM7) Once Jacob changed, they went back to being friends. (NM11) Embry remains one of Jacob’s best friends though the rest of the book, in spite of the way he breaks the rules and hangs out with Bella more than he should.

Embry is quieter and more shy than some of the other boys on the Rez. He is playful, but still come across as being more reserved.

Personal history: Lauren is very stand offish when it comes to Bella. She come across as the snob of the bunch that sit at Bella’s lunch table. She has never been especially friendly to Bella. Lauren is jealous of EVERYTHING! (PC9)

During Bella’s "zombie" months, Lauren met a modeling agent who convinced her to do something "edgy" with her hair and pay for high quality headshots. He promised that her career would take off like a rocket. She’s still waiting for that to happen. (SMW) She is also one of the least pleased when Bella "returns". (NM6)

Personal history: Sam was the first of the boys on the Rez to hit puberty and become a werewolf once the Cullens moved back to Forks. The first time he met Bella he explained how the Cullens were not welcome at First Beach or anywhere near the La Push area.(TW6)

As the other boys on the Rez became werewolves one by one, Sam took on the role of leading then through their change and helping them become accustomed to their new life. To outsiders, it seemed as if he had started a little cult. (NM7) When Jacob becomes a werewolf, it was Sam who told him he couldn’t share the information with Bella. (NM12) Once Bella did figure out the truth, Sam accepted her help with the search for Victoria. (NM13)

Sam is currently engaged to Emily. One night Sam lost control of his anger and accidentally hurt Emily, leaving her scarred on her face and hand. Despite that, Sam loves her unconditionally. He has never forgiven himself for being so careless.(NM15)

Because of becoming a werewolf, Sam was forced to turn down a college scholarship. (NM7)

Personal History: Phil, though years younger than Renee, married Bella’s mother. He travelled constantly playing minor league baseball and so spent a majority of his time away from his new family. Because of this, Bella chose to move to Forks to give the newlyweds time to be together (TW2).

Eventually, Phil signed a contract with the Suns, a team in Jacksonville, and he and Renee were able to settle down (TW25).

Because of a sports injury–"while demonstrating a slide, he’d tangled up with the catcher and broken his thigh bone"–he and Renee were not able to attend Bella’s graduation (EC14).
